Restoration in Montessori classroom

ree

As our school year started, I realized my clothes washing table (also used as dish washing table and sometimes as paper making table) was not in the best condition. So I did the restoration in so simple steps.

Tools:

  • Brush for applying the stain

  • color stain

  • electric sander, you also can use Sandpaper in 100, 150, and 220 grit

  • Tack cloth

  • Polyurethane

  • Rubber gloves

Steps for the restoration:

1-Move the table to a ventilated area, this is a messy work, at the end everything will be covered by sawdust:(. Sand the table with the electric sander or, beginning with the coarsest-grit sandpaper (100 grit) and sanding in the direction of the wood grain. Next, use the 150-grit paper, and finish by sanding with the 220-grit paper.

2-Wipe the surface of the entire table using the tack cloth. I washed the table with water and let it dry on the sun, but you do not need that step, just make sure the table is very clean and smooth .

3-Apply the stain with a brush, following the natural direction of the grain. Let it dry , you can apply a second coat if desired.

4- Apply polyurethane according to package directions, let the table dry at least for 24 hours before using it.
